Only towards the end did the puzzles really take some thinking and planning, and even then, it was pretty straightforward. I’m not even sure any of them can be called a puzzle because it’s always the same thing, and it’s really goofy: all you have to do is grab the ball with a mechanical hand and drag it into the hole. Although the game sells itself as an action-adventure puzzle platformer, it’s actually a walking simulator with platforming and light puzzles. That being said, there isn’t much to explore anyway. It’s not just that it’s hard to tell where you might jump and where you’ll fall to your death, it’s also the fact that there are checkpoints in the game, so you’ll be brought to the same places over and over again. Additionally, although at first I was enthusiastically exploring every nook and cranny (as well as parking everywhere), my adventurous spirit soon faded due to the constant deaths. I spent a lot of time wandering around, trying to figure out where to go because of this. Without any sort of markers or signs of what I was supposed to do – other than the notes the astronauts were making to detail their journey – it was very easy to get lost and confused. What happened to the crew? Why was the planet barren?Īlthough the complete lack of a HUD is one of the most appealing aspects to me, I think it can be annoying to some. The complete lack of HUD coupled with the sporadic-sounding soundtrack made the world so much bigger and empty than any other title I’ve played I was immediately sucked into the story. I’m a big fan of survival and space-themed games, and despite all that I’ve tried, non-living planet There is only one who has made me feel the hollowness of being trapped on a dead planet. The premise itself is haunting, but hardly any developer really captures the essence of empty loneliness in such stories. Shortly after, they learn that their crew has been murdered, and the only other living creature is a Russian woman named Alita, who has strange powers. Upon awakening, he learns that the crew is missing and that the land which was supposed to be green is actually a barren wasteland. Hopefully others had a better time with it than I did.Non-living planet is a puzzle platformer that follows the story of an unknown astronaut who is sent with his crew to survey a promising habitable planet Unfortunately, something goes wrong during landing and their ship crashes. The game sometimes introduces new elements to vary the platforming and puzzles, but overall the gameplay stays pretty similar through the whole journey.Įven though I didn't really enjoy my time with the game, nothing it does it bad I think, it just lacks excitement or interest to really be worth playing in my opinion. There are also occasional flashbacks about the character's past and some audio logs that gradually reveal what happened to the planet. The game quickly becomes a series of small environmental puzzles and platforming sections, sometimes you're just travelling through canyons, other times it's fairly large areas with subtle environmental clues where to go like it did at the very start. Some of the environments are semi-interesting, but most are barren and bland. And I mean a really really long way, the environments are huge. Quickly you find that something bad has happened to the people that were on the planet and you'll need to journey a long frickin way to try to survive yourself. The way the game doesn't signpost is its best feature I think. The first thing the game did, which I liked, is to leave you directionless about where to travel except for some subtle clues in the environment. The premise is you're an astronaut who crash lands on a planet the Russians have colonized. It started out decent, I kept going hoping it would get better, it kinda did but never by enough to make me feel at the end like it had been a good experience.

It was free so I'm not going to knock on it hard. To be honest I don't think this was worth my time to play. I've just finished playing and thought I'd share my thoughts. This is one of those games many of us got for free from Epic Games.
